UNTIL O-WEEK 2024

What is oRientation Week (O-week)?

University orientation is a vital introduction to campus life for incoming students, typically held before the start of the academic year. It serves as a comprehensive orientation program designed to familiarize new students with the campus environment, academic expectations, resources, and support services available to them. During orientation, students participate in various activities such as informational sessions, campus tours, academic advising, and social events aimed at facilitating connections with peers, faculty, and staff. The overarching aim of university orientation is to ease the transition into college life, empowering students to navigate the complexities of university culture and academia with confidence and success.
Academic preparedness
Familiarizing students with academic policies, resources, and expectations, as well as providing guidance on course selection and registration.
Resource Awareness
This may include academic support services, counseling and wellness resources, career services, financial aid, and extracurricular opportunities.
community engagement
Introducing students to campus traditions, values, and culture, instilling a sense of identity and belonging that encourages active participation and engagement in campus life.
Social integration
Facilitating connections with peers, faculty, and staff through social events, icebreakers, and group activities. Students can build friendships and support networks that enhance their overall university experience.
Queen's Health Sciences Orientation acknowledges that this institution is situated on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee. We honor and respect the enduring presence, resilience, and contributions of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee to this land we now call home.
